Jackie Jumps for SportsAble
62-year-old SportsAble member Jackie Sprules took to the skies to show her support for our charity by completing a 13,000ft tandem skydive.
The standard sponsored walk or cheery cake sale wasn’t exciting enough for this adventurous grandmother who wanted to do something on a larger scale. The fact that she is visually impaired didn’t phase her at all.
“I’ve never done anything like this before so thought ‘why not give it a go?'” she told us before the jump. “I read about a lady who was 100 who jumped out of a plane for the first time and thought that’s what I wanted to do. Why not live life to the full?”
Jackie lost most of the sight in both eyes due to nerve damage five years ago. Her can-do spirit and support from husband David has seen her carry on and embrace all that life has to offer.
Since joining SportsAble in March of this year Jackie has enjoyed participating in kayaking, air weapons and ten pin bowling alongside David. Over the forthcoming months Jackie hopes to enjoy all of the 12 sports and activities that SportsAble has to offer.
Keen to give back to charities that have helped her stay positive and active since losing her sight, Jackie is donating money equally to SportsAble and BucksVision. Help her reach her target of £2,000 by donating at:
Since the jump on 23rd September at the Hinton Skydiving Centre, Jackie’s story has inspired other members of SportsAble to take up exciting challenges.
