SportsAble Reaches Out

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at SportsAble, which is why our Sports Development team is committed to reaching out into the local community to deliver disability sport.

Taking coached, sporting sessions out to communities and clubs that cannot make the journey to SportsAble, increases engagement and enables more people with disability to enjoy the benefits of inclusive sport.

Damian Ng, our resident Sport Development Officer, recently visited the Sequela Foundation at its home in North Maidenhead Cricket Club, to deliver a Boccia session which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the participants. Boccia is a Paralympic sport which is growing in popularity and one that SportsAble also delivers on a weekly basis to its members.

“Disabled people very often have to rely on friends and family, or paid taxi services, for transport to and from clubs, which can be an obstacle to participating in sport and living an active life. By taking disability sport into the community, with fully-trained coaches, many more people can enjoy the physical and social benefits of sport,” explains Damian.

“One of the most rewarding parts of our outreach programme is seeing people achieve something they never thought they could do. This can really lift their spirits and be essential to their overall sense of well-being.”

If you think your club or group would benefit from disability sport, please contact the Sport Development team at SportsAble: niall.mccaffrey@sportsable.co.uk or damian.ng@sportsable.co.uk.
