CONGRATULATIONS!

SportsAble is proud to be have Nick Gibbs, Secretary of the Great Britain Kurling Association, as its Kurling Sports Leader so people joining the section are getting the best of British Kurling right here in Maidenhead.

The section boasts a dozen regular Kurlers and once a month visitors from a local club in Aylesbury come in for friendly competition. There is a great social scene on Kurling nights and Kurling is enthusiastically enjoyed by junior players at the Sunday Funday sports sessions.

Kurling is specifically designed to be all-inclusive allowing disabled and non-disabled athletes to compete against each other with an equal chance of winning.

The objective of the game is to get your stones closer to the centre of the target than your opponent by using your hands or specialist equipment to assist you. Kurling is an ideal sport for those needing hand / eye co-ordination and some gentle exercise.

SportsAble is committed to ensuring the ongoing success of this fantastic sport through their large presence on the National Executive Committee of the Great Britain Kurling Association – the National Governing Body for the sport. Level 2 coaches Nick and Gill Gibbs, assisted by a number of England Internationals, have a great ability to drive competition forward for established players at the same time as guiding new players through the sport at their own pace.

Whatever level players choose to perform at the coaches provide either dedicated coaching sessions or fun league matches. Those in it to win it could be on the route to national and international recognition as the club has a history of winning – eight past and present England Internationals as well as six past World Champions. Those eager to keep competition closer to home can enter in many of the fun in-house leagues run throughout the year such as:

A singles competition restricted to SportsAble members

A pairs competition where we are joined by members of Aylesbury Disabled Club

SportsAble welcomes beginners, fun Kurlers and serious athletes to this friendly club.
