An Open Letter to SportsAble

Dear Members, Volunteers, Associates and Friends,

I am writing to you today with the news that at the end of the month (December) I will be leaving my role as Sports Manager at SportsAble.

Firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone for making the last five years an incredible experience. I have met so many amazing people that have inspired and motivated me along the way, and I am proud to have forged so many friendships in my time at the club.

My experiences have allowed me to be a part of people’s journeys from inactivity to taking part in sport for fun, friendship, and competition. I have had the opportunity to take part and learn about more sports than I could have ever imagined, and I have subsequently been able to see that the world is a better place when opportunities are designed to be inclusive for all.

Highlights along the way have included the successful running of four SportsAble Games- a staple part of the SportsAble calendar and one of the most rewarding days to be a part of year on year. I have also been able to work with other amazing charities as part of our outreach programme, which has been a priceless window into the value of physical activity for those that are otherwise excluded from recreational opportunities to participate.

Finally, I would not be able to close this message without mentioning the main highlight which has been coming in every day to work for you- the members- the lifeblood of the charity and the most important cog in the SportsAble wheel. You are the reason the charity exists and will continue to exist and ultimately thrive in the coming years as I know for a fact that amazing people exist within these four walls.

In closing this message, I want to reassure you that despite the world being a challenging place right now, that better times will be ahead, and that by embracing the ethos of fun, friendship and opportunity that you will come out the other side stronger. The current team, including my friend and colleague Damian, are building strong foundations for the future that I am excited to see progress in the coming months and years.

Despite leaving my role, I do not intend to leave the SportsAble family and will be sure to return in a non-professional capacity, and hopefully to catch up with many of you in the near future.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and prosperous 2021 and beyond.

Best regards,

Niall
