Penny Wins Gold
Congratulations to SportsAble Boccia player, Penny Froude, who won a gold medal in the BC4 class at last weekend’s 2020 BE Cup in Sheffield.
The win is even more incredible because it is Penny’s first competition since returning to the Boccia circuit following a back injury last year. Penny’s rehabilitation meant she had only trained and played around 15 times since August.
Going into the competition, Penny wanted to use the experience to gauge where she was in terms of her recovery and assess whether it was the right time to return to training. It was also an opportunity for her to enjoy being back in the Boccia community and catch-up with friends.
To her delight, Penny exceeded her own expectations when she went on to win the Gold!
Penny said: “It was so good to see two females on the podium as my good friend Georgina won Bronze, so chuffed for her. I also picked up my ‘Unsung Hero’ award as I missed the presentation ceremony, due to my back, in December.”
If you would like to try Boccia, SportsAble runs sessions on Tuesdays from 6-8pm and Wednesdays 11:45am until 12:45pm. No previous experience is necessary, and the session is open to all.
