SportsAble – Highly Commended at Awards Ceremony
What an evening Team SportsAble had at the Get Berkshire Active Inspiration and Participation Awards ceremony on 23rd February.
We are proud that our After School Club was shortlisted in the Youth Engagement Project of the Year category and we were delighted to attend the evening to collect our Highly Commended certificate.
Since its creation in 2015, the SportsAble After School Club has gone from strength to strength, providing SportsAble’s unique brand of inclusive sport and activity to young disabled people in Berkshire.
We shared the prestigious occasion at Reading’s Hilton Hotel with several of the hardworking teachers and support staff from Manor Green School. Their involvement is key to the children’s overall enjoyment of the sessions which include Athletics, Boccia, Kurling, Table Tennis, Polybat, sitting Volley Ball and Wheelchair Basketball.
The children benefit in lots of ways from being part of our After School Club from developing sport and physical skills to improving things like turn-taking, patience and confidence. One parent has even reported an increased quality of sleep in their young one the night after each session.
We are also pleased to announce that one of our volunteers, Ruth Hawes, also collected a Highly Commended certificate in the Volunteer of the Year category.
Ruth volunteers at SportsAble in several sports, but also for Windsor Sea Cadets, Clewer Hill GirlGuiding, Dedworth Church -where she has been doing so for eight years.
