SportsAble Swimmers Enjoy Gala Success
It was medals galore for SportsAble’s amazing swimmers at the recent Hampshire Development Swimming Gala run by Cerebral Palsy Sport at Totton Health and Leisure Centre on the 25th January.
SportsAble took three of its swimmers to the gala and all of them won medals.
Luca Clatworthy (14) won three medals; Gold, Silver and Bronze. Cheered on by his mum and grandparents, Luca swam brilliantly and overcame some pre-race nerves to succeed. He has been swimming with SportsAble for a number of years and this is the first external gala he has ever entered.
Adam Hussain (10) won two medals: Gold and Silver. Although Adam has competed in this gala before, it was a new venue. This didn’t stop Adam enthusiastically achieving a great performance. He was cheered on by his sister and mum.
Kate House (20) swims with SportsAble on Sunday evenings. Swim coaches Sharon and Chris has been helping Kate swim longer distances so were delighted when she won three medals: Gold, Silver and Bronze. This was Kate’s second time competing in an external gala.
In addition to the swimmers, Chris and Sharon took two volunteers, Maddy and Isobel. The girls helped swimmers in the water by swimming alongside them or in front of them. This support helps the swimmers to go faster.
Sharon Bridge, head coach says, “We are so proud of what the swimmers achieved. Competing in external galas really builds their confidence. Our volunteers were fantastic too. We are very grateful they gave up time to come and help.”
SportsAble runs two swimming sessions each week. Sunda evenings at the Magnet Leisure Centre from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. This session is open to all ages and abilities. There is an additional junior swimming session at Newlands Girls School on Thursday evenings. These sessions are open to children aged 5-14 years old.
