SportsAble Part of Guinness World Record Success

SportsAble members Tamas Gaspar, Chris James and Ben Harris (Photocpation left to right)  took part in a successful Guinness World Record attempt to pull a Boeing dream liner 100 metres using wheelchairs only. It took 97 Wheelchairs just under four minutes to pull the aeroplane over the line.

The event was organised by Aerobility , a registered charity founded in 1993 offering disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to fly an aeroplane. It took place on Friday 23rd November at London Heathrow Airport and the Dreamliner was supplied by British Airways.

Although the official weight of the pulled aircraft hasn’t been released, Boeing states that the Operating Empty Weight of a Boeing 787-9 is 128.82 tonnes.

The Guinness World Record website states that the previous record was achieved in 2011 by a team of 84  wheelchair users who pulled a 67.19 tonne C-130 Hercules more than 120 meters.
