Staff Team Wins Target Hexathlon

SportsAble members and supporters came together last weekend to enjoy a day of disability sports in the annual Target Team Hexathlon. Scooping first prize with a total score of 106 was the Staff team, consisting of Niall McCaffrey, Sports Manager; Sue Carter, Anthony Hornby and Damian Ng.

Six teams, comprising 26 contestants, competed against each in Air Weapons, Archery, Wheelchair Basketball, New Age Kurling, Target Boccia and Darts, in a bid to lift the coveted trophy.

In a close second place with 100 points were Team Twirlers whose members included Jennie Bouron, Jen Brown, Sukhi Gidds and Dave Hill. Although beaten to first place, the team won the Archery section comfortably.

Far from living up to their name, the No-Hopers came a respectable third with 96 points. The team’s members were Paul, Mathew and Joshua Forster, plus Lorraine Pickering. They won the New Age Kurling section

Edged into fourth place by just one point were the Kayakers, comprising David and Jackie Sprules, Noel Steadman, Alan and Sue Johnson.

Although not quite making a podium position, the Swimmers beat the rest of the field in Boccia with a score of 108. This team included Chris Humphris, Sam Lightowler, Samuel Birch, Ron Ottaway and Jean Halkett.

Completing the teams’ line-up were the Stars, whose members Rebecca Gale, Lisa McCarthy, Dave Lynham and Elisa Patel beat the field in both the Darts and Wheelchair Basketball discipline.

Niall McCaffrey, Sports Manager said, “The Target Hexathlon is always an enjoyable event with members and supporters coming together to enjoy a relaxed day of competition.”
