SPORTSABLE AWARDS GREATEST ACHIEVERS IN 2018

SportsAble hosted its annual Awards dinner on Saturday (March 2), acknowledging members who have achieved incredible success in sports, fundraising, volunteering and services to the charity throughout 2018.

The charity’s Chairman, Vivienne Davies, awarded over 50 trophies throughout the evening, supported by the sports team, comprising Niall McCaffrey, Sports Manager and Damian NG, Sports Development Officer.

As well as members, friends, supporters and staff, Mayor, Cllr Paul Lion, and Mayoress Laura Lion were also in attendance during the evening.

The Mayor presented Tamas Gaspar with the charity’s most prestigious trophy, The Wilkinson Sword. This is awarded in recognition of the club member who has excelled in the highest level of sports competition during the year. Tamas is currently training and competing in a bid to secure a place on Team GB for Tokyo 2020.

Vivienne Davies, Chairman says, “Our Awards evening is something the whole club looks forward to. With more than 13 sports now available at the Club, everyone is working so hard throughout the year to make it happen. The Awards evening gives us all a chance to come together and hear about the incredible members we have.”

There were many other trophies awarded on the night, many of which are named after existing or former members. This provides an opportunity to celebrate past and present achievements, and to remember the incredible sacrifice and dedication that so many people have made to the charity over the years.
